Editors' Notes

The 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe adds a plug-in hybrid powertrain to an excellent midsize SUV that blends on-road comfort with off-road capability. Pricing starts at $59,865.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe is America’s second-best-selling plug-in hybrid, right behind the Jeep Wrangler 4xe. If it’s in your budget, the 4xe variant has a lot of appeal compared to a similarly equipped non-hybrid Grand Cherokee. The plug-in hybrid powertrain combines impressive performance with the ability to travel up to 25 miles on electricity alone. It also has smooth, quiet power delivery and improved off-road capabilities, especially with the 4xe-exclusive Trailhawk trim.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe competes with PHEV versions of mainstream SUVs like the Mazda CX-90 and Kia Sorento, but it’s also competitive with luxury SUVs like the plug-in variants of the Lincoln Aviator, Lexus RX, and Volvo XC90.

The non-hybrid, 2-row Grand Cherokee and the 3-row Grand Cherokee L are reviewed separately.

Pros

  • Electrified Jeep capability
  • Luxurious upper trims
  • Tons of standard features

Cons

  • Expensive
  • Not very efficient for a hybrid
