Initial thoughts on the Corolla Cross

Sunday, February 06, 2022

Initial thoughts on this car.... It's not going to win any awards for being flashy. It's probably not the best option for a growing family or someone who needs room for lots of sporting equipment. But there's something about the simplicity and ease that I really like. It definitely feels like you're in a Corolla, which is not a bad thing. Coming off driving a RAV4 for several years, which I really liked, the Corolla Cross seems more responsive, smoother and seems to have better breaking. One of the things I didn't care for about the Rav 4 was that it didn't take much snow to turn it into a sled, and you had to engage one of the AWD options by pressing a button on the dash. The Corolla Cross has real time AWD, which is nice. It took a minute to get it up to highway speeds, but once it got there it was effortless and smooth. Cabin noise also seems better than the Rav4. The cargo area is very smart, with ample room but also deeper storage pockets on either side of the tire cargo compartment. Overall there's just something about it I really like, so I'll call it 'everything', because there's no one thing you can put your finger on. It's not flashy, it's just good.

Solid, reliable, but there is a bit of road noise

Monday, March 06, 2023

My 2023 Corolla Cross came in after a few months wait from the factory, so far it is a great vehicle with all the Toyota reliability and value that I was looking for. The vehicle is well made, very solid, my only complaint is that I wish they would have used more sound deadening material in its construction. It has a lot of road noise compared to the Hyundia Kona I drove for 4 years. It does come with 2 years of free maint, always a plus. Kudos to my local Toyota dealer in Lawrence Ks, for not adding thousands to the sticker price like some dealers will, due to limited inventory on new cars. Overall, I am looking forward to years of enjoying my new Corolla Cross.

What you should expect!

Great car that provides you the proper versatility for the price range. I currently own the car and purchase a 2022 LX AWD about 2 months ago. To date, the vehicle has about 800 miles on it. PRO: -Good Gas Mileage -Great AWD traction on dirt roads -Simple dash functionality -Fun to drive around town -Comfortable fabric seats -Has high marks for reliability -Children seatbelt alarms are great -Comes with a printed maintenance manual CON: -Road noise is noticeable but not terrible -Seat adjustment lever sticks out from below the seat. So when you are using cruse control it can be annoying -Lock buttons on the door do not aluminate at night -Car automatically unlocks when you place in park
